1. SCOPE
This specification covers materials, manufacture, dimension and requirements for polyethylene (PE) manholes used with sewage or drainage pipe and/or underground conduits with outside diameters of less than 46 inches. Manholes shall be manufactured by Rhino USA of Oregon LLC or approved equal meeting the following specification:

2.1 ASTM D-833 Definition of terms relating to plastics
2.2 ASTM D-3350 Specification for PE plastics molding and extrusions materials
2.3 ASTM D-2122 Determining dimensions of thermo plastic pipe and fittings
2.4 ASTM F-412 Definition of terms relating to plastic piping systems
2.5 ASTM D-2412 External loading properties of plastic pipe by parallel plate loading
2.6 ASTM F-477 Electrometric seals (gaskets) for joining plastic pipe


3. MAERTIALS
3.1 Manholes shall be produced using polyethylene compounds conforming to the requirement of Type III, Category *3* Class B, having a cell classification of 3354433E or higher and color/ultraviolet stabilizer as defined and described in ASTM D-3350.
3.2 Reworked or reprocessed materials shall not be allowed.

4. MANUFACTURE
4.1 Manholes shall be produced by the rotational molding process and consist of the required combination of base, riser, stiffening/anchor ring and cone sections.
4.2 Interior access shall be provided with non-metallic factory-molded steps.
4.3 Segmented joints shall be bell-and-spigot with a U-shaped gasket conforming to
ASTM F-477.
4.4 Anchor rings shall be at each joint and extend 2.5 inches from manhole outside diameter (O.D.).
4.5 Stiffener rings shall be equal to or less than 24 inches apart, longitudinally and circumferentially around the barrel.

5. REQUIREMENTS
Manhole walls shall be 0.5 inches thick and homogenous throughout. Interior and exterior surfaces shall be free of foreign inclusions and surface defects.

6. TESTING
6.1 Draw a vacuum to 10 inches of mercury, with valves closed. Measure time for vacuum to drop to 9 inches.
6.2 Time to be greater than 60 seconds for 48-inch diameter manholes.
